Wales football chief to discuss possible return to Principality Stadium with WRU

The new chief executive of the Football Association of Wales says it is possible that Wales could play games at the Principality Stadium again.

Speaking to PA's Wales sports reporter Phil Blanche, Noel Mooney said: "We'll speak to the WRU late next week. Absolutely we're in discussions with them. It's something we could well do. Why not?"

Wales have played only once at the home of Welsh rugby since 2011 – a 4-1 defeat to Spain in October 2018.

The international side's current home, the Cardiff City Stadium is hugely popular with the Red Wall and something of a fortress for Wales having qualified for the European Championship finals in 2016 and 2020.

Glamour sides

Mooney added: "We have an agreement with Cardiff City Stadium and everyone really likes going there. But we just have to make sure if Cardiff City Stadium is not available. Or if there's a real big feeling that people want to go to the Principality Stadium."

With Wales having been promoted to the top tier of the Nations League next year they will come up against the best European national sides and also a potential World Cup play-off game.

The feeling is that Wales could potentially attract large crowds if they come up against some of the large glamour sides such as World Cup winners, France and European Championship winners, Italy.
