The Remain Alliance can stop Brexit and send a record number of Plaid MPs to Westminster
Liz Saville Roberts, Plaid Cymru Westminster Leader
We live in tumultuous and extraordinary times that require us all to be prepared to step beyond the bounds of the comfortable, and do what’s needed in the national interest.
Brexit represents the single greatest threat to the Welsh nation in an entire generation.
There is no such thing as a ‘good Brexit’ for Wales – not Boris Johnson’s botched deal, not Theresa May’s deal, and certainly not No Deal.
Any version of Brexit would risk thousands of jobs across Wales, and plunge our agriculture and manufacturing industries into peril.
That is not a threat Plaid Cymru can stomach.
With more MPs, more AMs, and more councillors, and having beaten all other pro-Remain parties in May’s European election, Plaid Cymru is the lead party of Remain in this election.
As such, it falls to us to demonstrate the serious, grown-up, nation-before-party politics that people expect from us.

National interest
That’s why Plaid Cymru has today announced that it has reached an arrangement with two other pro-Remain parties.
In constituencies across Wales, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens will not be contesting the general election to give voters a single candidate – a Plaid Cymru candidate – who supports remaining in the EU.
By uniting behind the Plaid Cymru candidate, we have the opportunity to send a clear message to Westminster that Wales wants an end to the Brexit chaos.
And while Plaid Cymru too will stand aside in a smaller number of seats to allow the pro-Remain vote to coalesce around the Liberal Democrats or the Greens, the arrangement between the three parties – and this election – offers up and historic opportunity to send a record number of Plaid Cymru MPs to Westminster.
Our three parties have put aside our own interests to put the national interest of Wales first. We can take back control from the Westminster establishment, which knows little and cares less for Wales.
As Plaid Cymru’s leader Adam Price has said today, now is the time for us to put country before party, to put people before politics, and to embrace the common good.
