Women affected by changes to the state pension age will not receive compensation, Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall has announced.

Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) have advocated for support for women who were born in the 1950s and say they did not get adequate warnings about changes to the state pension.

ā€œThe Government does not believe paying a flat rate to all women at a cost of up to Ā£10.5 billion would be fair or proportionate to taxpayers,ā€ Ms Kendall told the Commons.

MaladministrationĀ

Ms Kendall did accept the Ombudsman’s finding of maladministration and has apologised for a 28-month delay in writing to 1950s-born women.

In a statement, she said: ā€œThese two facts: that most women knew the state pension age was increasing and that letters aren’t as significant as the Ombudsman says, as well as other reasons, have informed our conclusion that there should be no scheme of financial compensation to 1950s-born women, in response to the Ombudsman’s report.ā€

'Fair'

She added: ā€œThe alternative put forward in the report is for a flat rate compensation scheme, at level four of the Ombudsman’s scale of injustice, this would provide Ā£1,000 to Ā£2,950 per person at a total cost of Ā£3.5 billion and 10.5 billion.

ā€œGiven the vast majority of women knew the state pension age was increasing, the Government does not believe paying a flat rate to all women at a cost of up to Ā£10.5 billion would be fair or proportionate to taxpayers.ā€

For those who worship at the altar of the Labour Party " we are there for the working man and women" here is proof if it is wanted. Regardless of the ombudsman's report about The Waspi Woman that they should be compensated, this Government ignores him and says it would cost too much!! Will all the post men and women affected by the Horizon Scandal all receive the compensation that they deserve? Or will the " cost too much excuse" be used again? They have given above inflation pay rises to Labour affiliated Union workers with NO conditions imposed, now make the excuse of insufficient funds in the pot! WFP not mentioned in their manifesto. .Farmers inheritance Tax. Likely to cave into EU demands about allowing the French Fishermen access to UK waters after 2026 in order to have a close relationship with the EU. Giving up the Cacos Islands against the wishes of the inhabitants . A never ending list of actions without input from those likel y to be affected the most. Many more Mayors over- ruling District Councils to be put in place. Shouldn't this be voted on by the public in the areas affected? Local elections likely to be cancelled? WHY? Those .Mayors should not be imposed by the Government of the day as political bias could be the result? As for the Green Revolution to be imposed by Milliband he says communities should have a say but he will ignore any objections if he doesn't agree with them!! All very democratic with no accountability. The amount of money being spent by all the travelling around the world by various government groups and their staff should be published ,as they appear to have unlimited funds except when it comes to the benefit and care of those that they are supposed to be in the position to support!!!
