Russia has made ‘big concession’ by not taking over all of Ukraine, says Trump

Donald Trump said Russia has already made a “pretty big concession” to end the war in Ukraine by stopping short of taking control of the whole country.

But the notion is one that Ukraine and much of Europe have fiercely pushed back against, arguing that Russia pausing a land grab is hardly a concession.

Earlier on Thursday, Mr Trump called on President Vladimir Putin to “STOP!” the attacks on Ukraine, a rare rebuke of the Russian leader by the US president.

'Very bad timing'

“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying,” Mr Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

Russia struck Kyiv with an hours-long barrage of missiles and drones.

At least nine people were killed and more than 70 injured in the deadliest assault on the city since last July.

Mr Trump’s frustration is growing as a US-led effort to get a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia has not made progress.

The US president lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday and accused him of prolonging the “killing field” by refusing to surrender the Russia-occupied Crimea Peninsula as part of a possible deal.

Red line

Mr Zelensky has repeated many times during the war that began when Russia invaded in February 2022 that recognising occupied territory as Russia’s is a red line for Ukraine.

He noted on Thursday that Ukraine had agreed to a US ceasefire proposal 44 days ago as a first step to a negotiated peace, but that Moscow’s attacks had continued.

Mr Trump is meeting Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store to discuss the war in Ukraine, US tariffs and other issues.

Norway, a member of Nato and strong supporter of Ukraine, shares a roughly 123-mile border with Russia.

Farages best mate never had the ability or desire to do anything unless it was a win for trump. Trump is prepared to kill a country to make a fast buck. Trump is a dunce and someone made him president. These recent attacks are on trump. He enabled putin. The US is now an ally of putin. And Farage admires them both.

More a ghoul than a dunce. Utter scum. Same can be said of those who support him.

What planet is Trump living on? If Putin 'could' take control of all of Ukrain now - he would! He hasn't been able to because the Ukrainians have stopped him He still trying though. Where's the concession?? If a peace deal, on American terms, is completed now, with Ukraine losing all the land Russia now controls - it's only a matter of time before the megalomaniac tries again. Would the US concede 20,% of it's country in any peace terms? Yeah right.. Trump's lost the plot!

I don't believe that he's 'lost the plot'. I think the reality is that he admires absolutist despots and has the ambition to be one himself.

Agree there re plot. People were warning what trump was like, that he would chuck a nation to the wolves for vanity. Tale the claims for Greenland seriously. Take the attack on Canada seriously. Trump is now flogging his hats for 2028. EU is the last bastion now, our nuclear deterrent has been show to be useless if trump pulls the plug on servicing and France is the only truly independent deterrent. EU is where we need to be. France also has a capable carrier launched top gen aircraft.

Trump is living in La La Land.Does he fear being bombed out of sight every day?Perhaps he should spend a week in Ukraine where the main damage is being inflicted or Gaza being told to move out and then being attacked in the place that you have moved to?Has he been as insulting to Putin or Netanyahu as he is regularly to Zelensky? Of course not because he is a bully and has NO interest in the lives of the ordinary .members of the public.A coward and a bully who believes he is above the laws of his own land!!!!

If Japan in 1941 had taken Hawaii would the US have taken the concession of giving it up and suing for peace?

Same applies to Alaska today. Given that state's wealth of minerals and other resources Russia could make a claim that it got ripped off way back in the 1800's by a crooked US regime and Trump should now restore title to them. Sauce for the goose ?

Don’s all about the deal and the ‘deal’ is to ‘own it’ like he said of Gaza. Lands up against Vlads’ border will transfer from NATO to Trump PLC to make the deal and subsequent handovers of other nations simple.

He really is disgusting. A haphazard fascist, with no humanity. But his convictions already told us enough
