'I'm heading off as well.' Comedian pokes fun at Wales' independence movement in hilarious sketch

A comedian has poked fun at Wales' independence movement in a hilarious sketch, suggesting the nation has always been keen to follow in Scotland's constitutional footsteps.

Cork comedian Tadhg Hickey's sketches see him playing the characters of Wales, England, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland, as well as Northern Ireland's unionists and nationalists, as they sort out their constitutional wrangles.

In the latest sketch, Northern Ireland's nationalists seek to move in with the Republic of Ireland, while Scotland and Wales also seek to escape a drunken, jingoistic England.

But Wales is seen as being keen to leave only when Scotland says it will move out of the UK.

"Right, I'm out of here," Scotland says.

"I'm heading off as well there, so," says Wales.

"Oh my God, would you jump in a pond if he asked you to?" Northern Ireland's unionists ask.

"Depends how he asked," Wales says. "'Oi! get in the pond' - no chance. But if he asked 'hey would you mind getting in the pond,' just messing, yeah maybe..."

Tadhg Hickey, whose political comedy sketches have racked up hundreds of thousands of views on social media, has previously said that he's an Irish Republican and would "love to" see Scotland and Wales become independent.

He has previously also hosted Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts on his podcast to discuss Wales' political aspirations.

Yeah, hilarious, no honestly, I'm here creasing...I am...I am...I'm not lying. ... ...The only way it could be funnier is if the joke had a connection to the actual events, perhaps if the character of "England" was behaving so obnoxiously that the other country/characters wanted to leave the gathering of their own volition...but when "Wales" looks to ask "Scotland" if they are going "Scotland is standing next to the door already getting its hat and coat on.... it's funny because each wants to leave because "England" is misbehaving but Scotland is the closest to actually leaving.....Y'know "funny cox its true" kind of thing, I dunno, I'm not a comedian, I'm a trans woman with bipolar and a personality disorder that is quite certain that the desire for Cymru to be independent comes from dissatisfaction with Westminster rather than because Scotland says we should......

Doxing people is not clever. Argue the merit of the message. Don't just try and attack the messenger. And why not? Faeces and urine is probably still tastier than lava bread

OK. Let's argue the merits of stating on a news website that English people should be unknowingly fed urine and faeces. And then move onto the fact that "MrsLlinosDafydd" doesn't delete those comments and block the IP address of the user in the same way that he does someone who suggests that...say...electricity isn't "stolen" from the "Cymru"? News for the people of Wales. Yeah right.

She meant "Debate the issue of whether Scottish independence would trigger a rise in support for Welsh independence, not the relative merits of faeces and lava bread".

I can see you have the bit between your teeth on this issue. Is it really the most important thing in your life to try and destroy someone for some triviality they posted on social media? Can I suggest you go out and have a walk in nature? It always clears my head of negative thoughts. Unless this is your job of course

So Cymru has to follow Scotland and has always followed Scotland? Then how come Plaid Cymru was formed in 1925 and the SNP in 1934? Good luck to Scotland but we will leave this corrupt Union - when we want regardless of what Scotland does. We will go when we are ready.

The Scots will be long gone. "Welsh " Labour will remain in love with the british project whilst the Tories will keep chipping away at our dignity. Meanwhile Plaid Cymru will be preoccupied with celebrating its centenary.
