Watch: Trailer for gruesome new Welsh language eco-horror spooks audiences before Halloween

By NationCymru

A trailer for a new Welsh language supernatural eco-horror movie has landed and is spooking audiences before Halloween.

Unusually for a Welsh language film, audiences in the United States have been treated to the film first. It debuted at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas to positive reviews and will be released in the United States on November 19.

It will finally be released in Wales, where many will be able to watch it without resorting to subtitles, on 10 June 2022.

Directed by BAFTA-winning television director Lee Haven Jones and written by Roger Williams, Gwledd / The Feast also stars Caroline Berry, Steffan Cennydd, and Lisa Palfrey.

Gwledd / The Feast unfolds over the course of a single evening as a wealthy family gathers at their lavish home in the Welsh mountains for a dinner party, hosting a local businessman and neighbouring farmer to broker a business deal to mine the surrounding countryside.

When a mysterious young woman arrives to be their waitress for the evening, the family’s beliefs and values are challenged as her quiet yet disturbing presence begins to unravel their lives – slowly, deliberately, and with the most terrifying of consequences.

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter had praised the film's visuals, calling them "elegantly creepy". He also liked the "splashes of gore and the novelty of Welsh-language horror should hold the attention of genre lovers".

Jessica Kiang of Variety had enjoyed "the chilly control of Jones' filmmaking", which, according to her, was "enhanced by the pristine, deadened soundscape". She also found "Samuel Sim's atmospheric score, keeps our attention squirming on the hook".

Director Lee Haven-Jones has won the best director award for the Welsh language horror movie, The Feast after the film received its world premiere at Asia’s largest genre movie festival, the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan), in South Korea.
