I'm a Celebrity star says Wales 'awful' compared to Australia

I’m A Celebrity star Jordan North has said he believes the new Welsh setting of the reality show is "awful" for contestants.

The series which is usually set in an Australian jungle will return to Gwrych Castle in Abergele this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jordan North, 31, who presents BBC Radio One drivetime show with Vick Hope, said the weather was the main reason the November show was much harder to endure in Wales.

By the time it is filmed in Australia it is spring and a minimum of 17 degrees, while in Wales it is close to freezing at night.

“I think the castle is totally different to the jungle,” he said. “I think it is harder, I really do. In the jungle you can sit around in the sun all day when you are not doing much, the jungle is a beautiful environment.

“I am not saying Wales isn’t beautiful but that castle is cold. It is cold it is damp it is dark. It was awful. I think it is a lot harder. I think it is a bit more sinister, the trials feel more dark, more sinister."

North said his advice to any campmates would be: “Just be yourself. If you try and play up to the cameras, you will get found out. And try not to get in to any arguments.”

This year's contestants will quarantine for two weeks before heading to the castle.

"Testing will be done regularly in camp and on the set to ensure all the cast and crew are safe," a source told the Sun.

"ITV thinks this is the best case scenario and will stop any headaches surrounding Covid, which has been a nightmare for the BBC with Strictly."

The rumoured line-up include Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips.
