Vote now: Should Rob Page be sacked as Wales manager

After a draw with 203rd ranked Gibraltar and a 4-0 defeat away to Slovakia, Rob Page is under enormous pressure.

Wales fans took their anger out on the beleaguered boss after defeat in Trnava.

Chants of 'In transition' could be heard as Page and his players went to applaud the Welsh supporters after the game at the Anton Malatinský Stadium.

Ukraine 

Page was appointed permanent manager after the World Cup play-off final victory over Ukraine in June 2022, but Wales have since won only five times in 22 games.

The pressure has cranked up on Page since Wales missed out on this summer’s European Championship, and two June friendlies have proved nothing short of a disaster for him.

Future

Some of those supporters had called for Page to be sacked, but the manager insisted that he was focused on the future and determined to blood young players ahead of the Nations League campaign in the autumn.

I’m not sure he is capable of getting us there, and keeping us in the running for future competitions, knowing our ranking will surly be affected, and our standing in the groups. Surly a change should have been done by now, as any new manager would go straight in to a competition without a friendly!

He's just got Como 1907 into Serie A for the first time in nearly 40 yes. I don't think he going to be giving up the opportunity to coach them in their first year back.

A public vote like this is unfair. At the end of the day this is a man with a job, you are organising a vote which lead to him becoming unemployed. I expect more of Nation.Cymru

He suffers the same issues as many in charge of teams, he has chucked on too many fresh faces at once to give them a game. Coleman did it at the end of his time and Giggs did it and seemed to ignore giving the ball to Bale often. So will anyone be better right now, or maybe the FAW need to tell him to clam down, we still need to win as many matches as possible. Not just offer up so many caps and unsettle a team completely. He probably isn't going to progress us any further, sadly thats how sport can be.

His record is not great at near 30% win ratio with Cymru, and he also failed at club level, when sacked by league 1 Northampton after less than 8 months in charge. His tactical limitations have been exposed many a time, and to lose to Armenia ranked 93, at home 2-4 was awful, one of many embarrassing results before this last weeks results.

Gareth, above I agree with, very relevant, it’s not even Page’sresults, really. It is the basic competence at this level of management. Page seems to have no tactical nous, witness his lacking midfield tactics, his (mis)use of Johnson. 2022 World Cup, bit part. Subbed against Poland. Whatever game Lewandoski was having against Wales, he will always suck in two or three defenders which creates spaces elsewhere. Huge advantage. Johnson the same. Page’s thinking would have been that he doesn’t defend enough. Poles would never have done that mistake with their star player. Organizing the defense in general would have helped too. Page’s use and non-use of subs is beyond me, not to mention his choice of players, tactics and play patterns In some ways, I feel sorry for him because he has been promoted beyond his abilities, being a nice guy is not enough nor is strutting the touch line like a Sergeant Major. The Welsh FA themselves are also culpable for appointing him. Stand up, Mr Mooney. Rubber stamping Page recently for the next tournament 2024, merely brings into question whether the FA understands what happens in front of their eyes on a football field. Perhaps Mr Mooney thought that Page might grow into the job, a laudable notion but not surely at this level. Apart from several Welsh managers with Premier experience, we already have an eminent proven and experienced Welsh coach, the coach said to be the power behind the throne of our 2016 triumph, Osian Roberts. Highly praised by Gary Speed, Patrick Viera and other managers and commentators. Any recommendation's are based on solid experience not on hopeful cv’s. He has already done enough for Wales to get his medals. However, I am sceptical that an FA which chose Page initially and think he’s just the job for 2024, will have the vision or technical ability to appoint him. After all, it was the Welsh FA that appointed Paula Vennells, the disgraced and incompetent Post Office boss.

Diolch Alun, and may I also add, to hear pundits, all former players, on S4C, BBC Cymru and Sky sports all criticise him, then something must be out of place.

No one would want it? Oh yeah, cause it’s not like we haven’t got the talent to qualify for tournaments is it? Having qualified for four in a row! Why wouldn’t they want it?! Reasons?

Oh seriously. .he got the job by default and is so obviously not fit for purpose. , keep him on in some capacity , but not as manager

Unfortunately Rob Page's managerial flaws have been revealed to all but the players need to take responsibility too for poor lacklustre performances, which is sad seeing if it were not for that penalty miss we'd be playing in the Euros along with Scotland & England in Germany. Not sure if any sacking would bare fruit though resulting in a quick fix. Anyway, who would replace him? A wild card. Gareth Bale's as a replacement? Not sure if he has the badges to coach as yet and would he want the stress? I prefer page wasn't sacked but that he stood down on his own terms. Gary Speed laid the foundations and Page build the team up. He's as been one of the most successful managers we've had in a long time getting us to the 2016 Euros & 2022 World Cup tournaments after 60 painful years on the sidelines.
