Jess Fishlock becomes Wales’ record goalscorer in victory over Kosovo

Jess Fishlock broke Wales’ all-time goalscoring record during a 2-0 win over Kosovo in Llanelli that helped the Dragons finish top of Group B4 in Euro 2025 qualifying.

Fishlock surpassed Helen Ward’s 44-goal tally after just eight minutes, picking up a pass from Carrie Jones before slotting into the bottom corner.

Wales doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark as Fishlock’s initial effort came out to Mary McAteer and she finished on the rebound emphatically for her first international goal.

The win ensured Wales would be seeded for the Euro 2025 qualifying play-offs.

Got a bit sloppy second half, and probably would have been punished by a better team, but let's look at the positives instead: we've won our group, got promoted back to the top tier of the Nations' League, set a new goal-scoring record, and young striker Mary McAteer is off the mark. Really looking forward to the draw for the play off first leg later this week, but you've got to pay tribute to Jess Fishlock - more appearances and goals than any other Cymru footballer - and we'd not have got this far without her. Treasure Jess, because at 37 we won't have her forever. If ever a player deserved a crack at a major finals it's her.

Well done Wales! Two good matches played. Some nice goals scored too. A little scrappy in periods , yes, but the main thing is the win. Success breeds more success. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
