Boris Johnson just confirmed that it’s one rule for the Westminster elite, another for us

I wonder if any Conservative voters read this site. If there are any out there would you confirm that you are utterly ashamed of having voted for this bunch of elitist clowns.

My other half's soon expecting her very first grandchild. It's been a rocky ride for her son and his wife, in that they had fertility problems and, taking aboard the medical advice that they'd received, had reached the point when they'd virtually given up hope of having children of their own. However the clinic at the hospital advised that there was perhaps one more treatment that they might try, but it'd be best not to raise their hopes too high. And it worked. My partner's daughter-in-law is now nearing the end of her pregnancy and all appears well. Quite naturally my other half was keen to rejoice with them that rejoice and to see the baby as soon as possible. But then came the plague, and with it 'lock-down'. Bunter came on the TV on March 23rd and, with stark ansd unambiguous clarity, told us all: "From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home." Which we've both done, only going out subject to the restrictions and limitations laid down. But as the date when the baby's expected draws closer my partner's increasingly keen to travel over - her son and daughter-in-law live in England - as soon as the baby's born. Given the current circumstances, I've been trying to dissuade her, arguing that one prime reason why 'R' seems to have dropped down below '1' and instances of infection are falling is that we've all - or, at any rate, most of us - have stayed put as much as we could, and not gone out and about. And much of the time her response has been 'This is my first grandchild, and one which I never thought I'd have - of course I'm going to go, whatever the rules, whatever anyone says'. And now, this afternoon, Bunter's addressed the nation and told us all that Dom Cummings has 'followed the instincts of every father and every parent' and that Dominic Cummings has 'acted responsibly, legally and with integrity'. Which leaves me wondering just what's left for me to say to my other half when she says, as she undoubtedly will, that she'll fill the car up at the nearest filling station, as she's lawfully entitled to do, and not stop again until she's safely in England. And that on return she won't stop once she's crossed the border. Because apparently 'instincts' trump lock-down and law.

'Do as I say, not as I do'. Lockdown is dead intellectually and now morally after Cummings and Bojo's performance. This govt has lost moral authority so look out for social distancing and limiting interactions with people outside your own household completely unravelling.

who really thought it was ever any other way. Why isn't every other MP in Westminster screaming for Cummings head on a plate, I expect nothing from the tories they are scum but the silence from every other MP is rubbing salt into the wound.

On the face of it, it seems simple to put a judgement of "guilty" - he broke the rules that he and the government have laid down. He needs to pay. By the way I do not live in the Uk and have political axe to grind... Then I stepped back and thought what if it were me 20 years ago when my son was little? what if me and my husband had tested positive and knew we had the virus? would we think the same way as those who have not had it? or would it change the way we make our decisions? simple answer - . Hell yes! I am a clinical research professional of 38 years. I am absolutely terrified of this virus. The "cytokine storm" it can cause in the lungs can be sudden and totally debilitating... and fatal.... In a matter of small number of hours and often minutes it takes over and you are brought to your knees and often deathbed if left untreated.... Forgive me but I always think the worst is going to happen and plan for that. I would imagine that is going to happen to me and my hubby. My poor little son would be left on his own with two dying parents and nobody would know because he was too little to alert anyone and call the emergency services.... What would I do in those circumstances? How would I make sure that my son would be able to get in the emergency services and take care of the situation? and what if he were too little to do that? Sorry to say I would consult with my family and work out what would be the best option to ensure the safety of my child, and rules or no rules I would take that option... sorry but my instinct as a parent would take precedence. I wonder what Dominic, or rather what his wife was thinking? and I wonder if he were as scared to death as I would be in his situation? and I wonder if we can reserve judgement until we have to face that exact same situation (and I sincerely hope all of you dont)?

Cummings reminds me of an evil bond villain

Unalloyed hypocrisy certainly. But it's the leaderships Orwellian double think, doubling down with the refutations that chills me.

Are we all forgetting one thing? I am no rocket scientist but does the government not represent the people and hence are voted in by the people? If they are starting to play the one rule for them and one for us game yet again, which seems to be all to common over the last ten years, in my personal opinion for what it is worth. Perhaps it is time for us to play the no confidence get out game would you not say?
