Woman accused of expressing support for Hamas to stand trial next year

A woman from Cardiff charged with expressing support for Hamas is due to stand trial next year.

Kwabena Devonish, 27, appeared before Bristol Crown Court by video link on Friday for a further case management hearing.

She is charged with expressing an opinion or belief that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, namely Hamas, contrary to the Terrorism Act 2000.

The alleged offence is said to have been committed at Ty William Morgan in Central Square, Cardiff, on November 11 in 2023.

Devonish has pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.

She was due to stand trial on August 18 this year but this will now take place in March 2026.

Judge Martin Picton said: “I will fix the case for trial on March 16.”

The trial is expected to last up to five days. A mention hearing will take place on March 2.

Diana Wilson appeared for the prosecution during the case, while Rajiv Menon KC represented Devonish.

Devonish, of Pentrebane, Cardiff, denies the charge against her.

So if a person expresses support for the zionist government which has murdered over 50,000 innocent semitic Palestinian civilians, will they also get sent to jail.

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self determination in their ancestral homeland. 1 tiny state alongside 57 Muslim ones and 157 Christian ones. Hamas on the other hand are a terrorist organisation committed to the death of all Jews. Sadly war has tragic consequences for civilians.... wherever they are. Best thing to happen would be for Hamas to release the hostages and stop using the Palestinians as human shields.

Best thing would have been to not let well armed settlers invade and drive out Palestinians from their homes and land in June 2023. Best thing would also have been for the IDF to stay out of Jenin in July 2023 rather than killing several children, displacing several thousand Palestinians from their homes and generally ruining their lives. So no, the zionists are certainly not without sin and they threw the first of several stones. And yes, Hamas should release the hostages. But the IDF need to stop killing innocent civilians unless you think that killing innocent people under the pretext of human sheilds is justified no matter what.

Sadly all war results in the death of innocent civilians. Do I like that ? No. Can I change that? No. Does using civilians as human shields increase the numbers? Yes. Who benefits from that? Hamas I hope you are as concerned for civilians in Sudan? Possibly not given your fixation on 'zionists'.

It is sad that you feel you can't change the outcome of war. Maybe because UK has proscribed any demonstration speaking up against the war in Palestine and taken away our freedom to ask for the genocide to end. I am not a fan of Hamas for the taking of hostages and I condemn the violent attack on October 2023. I don't like that you do not condemn the violence in West Bank that preceded the October 2023. It shows you lack compassion for the Palestinians. You mention Sudan which is correct to highlight the genocide there. Once Palestine is it's own sovereign state, the war in Sudan will also end Allah willing.
