Students turn Bangor University campus into a game

By NationCymru

Bangor University campus will be turned into a big game this Friday.

The idea behind Bangor Arcade is that the site will be turned into a series of real, student-designed, site-specific games.

Free and family-friendly games such as ā€˜Laser Maze Shootout’, ā€˜Aperture Labs Escape Room’ and ā€˜Murder escape’ will be played out on several sites across the campus.

The transformation will take place between 6-9pm tomorrow, Friday, 27 April. A full list of games and locations can be found here.

Dr.Ā Melissa Kagen, Lecturer in Game Studies & New Media, who organized the project, said ā€œdelicious prizesā€ would be available for the winners.

"Game design students have created a fantastic range of games—escape rooms, athletic contests, word puzzles, carnival games, and wacky combinations of several genres,ā€ she said.

ā€œThe goal was to turn theĀ wholeĀ campus intoĀ a playground for the night, and I've been veryĀ impressed at how well the designers rose to that challenge."

Dr.Ā Eben Muse, Head of School of SCSM said they had beenĀ ā€œdeveloping a game design program here for years, and I'm excited about the Bangor Arcadeā€.

ā€œStudents from theĀ program, at all levels, have come up with exciting, crazy, location-based games that push the boundary between gaming and performance."

Game locations can be found atĀ http://tinyurl.com/bangorarcadeĀ and @BangorAtPlay or the hashtag #BangorArcadeĀ can be followed for updates.
