Sir Keir Starmer has expressed his “unwavering support for Ukraine” after speaking with both Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky following their heated exchange in the White House, Downing Street said.

The Prime Minister’s intervention came after a terse exchange in the Oval Office between Mr Zelensky and the US president.

The two leaders abandoned plans to sign a minerals deal which would have given further US support in exchange for access to Ukraine’s natural resources.

'Lasting peace'

Following the clash, a No 10 spokeswoman said: “The Prime Minister has tonight spoken to both President Trump and President Zelensky.

“He retains unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine.

“The Prime Minister looks forward to hosting international leaders on Sunday including President Zelensky.”

Weasel words from starmer. He should be telling Charlie to rescind trumps invite to the uk (how many millions will that cost?) Zelensky was set up so that trump could further toadie up to putin. Starmer really needs to decide which side he’s on (fascism or decency)!

I sense a cooling from Clark, when you are a courtesan you never know where you stand from one date to the next...

Zelensky spoke very well in the white house, made a good argument for his country and people. Perfect world leader. Unlike the other 2.

Pull the visit. Or I hope to see one of the biggest demo’s in London against a putin stooge.

I think the way President Zelensky was verbally attacked by the US President and his sidekick was dreadful. They would not let him talk and went for him from both sides. Very cowardly of them. One has to remember that the Ukraine President has limited language abilities and the meeting should have been one on one. I felt really bad for President Zekensky and the Americans should be ashamed.

47 and Vance, undoubtable bought and paid for now. But does anyone now doubt it when people say 47 is not the business genius he claims? It was on show yesterday and Vance really is a bigger scare than 47 Heard a great quote yesterday. If Putin stops in Ukraine and withdraws there is peace. If Zalensky stops in Ukraine, Ukraine disappears. Wonder where all the 47 fluffers are and what they say next. farage (and reform), badenoch (and the tory party), braverman, millar (and the Welsh Cons), johnson (we already know which side he is buttered on), truss (out with the fairies)....

Did you watch the press conference? The china idea seems to have traction for some reason, people need to see a benefit I expect when the reason is much simpler. Best description I heard was "its like playing chess with a pigeon, the pigeon has no idea of the rules or where it is and will mess all over the board and knock all the pieces down because it is a pigeon and you can expect no better" That was trump and vance. You follow the putin mantra if you want. I just watched a nation fall in line with putin. The deal for minerals would be renaged on by trump. In this we have decades of evidence of what he does. Its his mo.

probably not a good idea to put too much faith in James O'Brien, he's very good at gaslighting,

My own thought with observable facts with a stolen analogy. I knew what trump is before he was elected first time around. People then said what he was but they said we can manage him. What bit if that analogy is wrong? The one I had made up myself was the same bent but not as succinct. It nails what trump is. Or are you supporting trump?

Putin is the warmonger not Starmer. Would you be willing to be make concessions regarding Welsh sovereignty if an independent Wales were invaded? Do you think Trump would ever make concessions if the US was invaded? (Mind you he might if Putin took Alaska) If the US invades Canada who would be the warmonger? Trump for enacting the war or Trudeau for defending his country?
