Taskmaster has tweeted in Welsh and Greg Davies has insisted he’s related to the first Prince of Wales

The show tweeted "Tarwch fi gyda'ch ffon rythm" (Hit me with your rhythm stick) during tonight's show in which the comedian insisted he was descended from Owain Gwynedd.

Owain Gwynedd was King of Gwynedd and the first man to lay claim to the title 'Tywysog Cymru', after Wales' regional princes rallied behind him to face down an invasion by Henry II of England in 1165.

Greg Davies discovered that he was possibly descended from Owain Gwynedd during a 2017 episode of Who Do You Think You Are?

During today's episode, the Taskmasker asked celebrities to get him the “most surprising thing delivered to the Taskmaster house” with a budget of £50.

One of these deliveries turned out to be a man claiming to be Owain Gwynedd who challenges Greg Davies' claim to be descended from him.

He was clutching a copy of ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm stick’ - “the first record that Greg ever bought”.

He passes a note saying: “I am King Owain Gwynedd. Word has reached the castle that you claim to be a direct descendant of me. You are not! Who do you think you are?”

Greg Davies takes issue with the charge: “I am related to Owain Gwynedd! The first Prince of Wales. I am. But you said I wasn’t.”

I do know Greg Davies is indeed related to Owain Gwynedd , the first Principle ruler of Wales . He appeared on a BBC show, think it was called, Who Do You Think You Are?, in which he found out that he was descended.on his father's side, but discovered that Owain Gwynedd had numerous children which meant half the population of Criccieth was also related to him.

Even more than half of Criccieth I suspect. My parents did ours for many years and they took us right into the Aristocracy. Once you get into that lot they have family trees to prove bloodlines all over and well known names keep cropping up. The further back you go, the more likely to be. A national common ancestor I’ll bet most of the authors and posters on Nation.Cymru are also related. But a thing to remember is that most of our trees are likely to be good honest people, not self aggrandising palace dwelling land thieves

What what? His dad was Welsh. As with most of our nation, he is descended from distant kings, queens, chieftains and figures of significance from our nation’s past. It is a statistical certainty that so are you. The BBC just traced one of his.

Three of my grandparents are Welsh but the fourth (my nan) was born on the border lands of England and Wales. I found that I'm descended from the aristocratic family of the house of Stratford through my great grandmother x 6 Mary Stratford born at Prestbury, Cheltenham in 1836. The Stratfords descended from the Throckmortons of Coughton court who were descended from Katherine Vaux daughter of Sir Nicholas Vaux. Katherine's mothere was Elizabeth Fitzhugh who descended from Gwlady ddu, daughter of Llewelyn fawr Prince of Gwynedd. All can be proven through birth certificates, baptisms, marriage records and right back to the Heraldic Visitations. Google the Stratford family by Gerald H. Stratford and it's all there.

Exactly. And Llewelyn Fawr was descended from Hywel Dda and other Welsh historical figures. Was Gwladys Ddu Llewellyn’s daughter via Joan of England? She was daughter of King John (of Robin Hood fame) and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Through John you get every preceding English king up to William of Normandy and through Eleanor you connect directly into Charlemagne and the Merovingian line who CLAIM descent from Jesus or his brother James.
