Listen to the hilariously bad rap outtakes from England's World In Motion World Cup song

By David Owens

This is why they call us the Land of Song and not our neighbours next door.

World In Motion is rightly viewed as one of the best football songs of all time. The New Order track recorded for England's World Cup campaign in 1990, memorably featured John Barnes rapping.

However, outtakes from the sessions featuring Barnes and his teammates, Gazza and Peter Beardsley attempting their own raps have today been released - and they are hilariously bad.

And if England perform as terribly as Gazza and Peter Beardsley do in these unheard rap outtakes from the World In Motion recording sessions, then they'll have very little chance of winning Euro 2020.

Classic lines include: "You've got to hold and give but do it at the right time, you can be slow or bad but you must get to the line.

"They'll always hit you and hurt you, defending attack. There's only one way to beat them, get round the back.

"Catch me if you can, 'cause I'm the England man. And what you're looking at is the Master Plan."

The tapes of the sessions are up for auction as part of New Order bass player Peter Hook's private collection, which can be viewed on the Omega auctions website.

The auction will see the rock star's collection going under the hammer in October. Find out more here.
